What happens OUTSIDE of the room falls into the category of SOUNDPROOFING, and to be truly effective will almost always involve structural or architectural solutions. We can strive for some degree of isolation with acoustic panels and other simple, low-cost measures, and those may be enough to make the situation tolerable, but to be clear: soundproof spaces really need to be built starting at the drawing board. True soundproofing is outside the scope of Snelling Acoustics. It's just not what we do. What happens INSIDE the room, however, is a different matter, and for that Snelling Acoustics offers a variety of proven options and applications, which are inline with common industry standards and practices.
The basic obstacle to reliable listening environments is the uncontrolled reflections of sound waves in the room as they bounce back and forth between the walls, floor and ceiling. We WANT to hear the music coming from our monitor speakers, the soundtrack to that blockbuster action movie, or simply the words coming from our conversation partners. But these uncontrolled reflections compete with the desired sound source coming directly from the speakers. This interference creates a number of irritating or esthetically fatal problems. These include inaccurate audio monitoring leading to compensating errors in our mixing, as well as garbled movie soundtracks, strained conversations, and even ear fatigue or damage.
Properly applied acoustic absorption reduces the strength of interfering reflections, improving the accuracy of our hearing as well as our listening enjoyment. This leads to better music mixes, clarity of dialog, and both warms and makes safer our music practice rooms.
